NART is one of the leading organizations in Bulgaria that have recognized the role of occupational therapy not only in the sphere of health science but also in creating inclusive environment in kindergartens and schools.
OT fosters the development of a maximum degree of autonomy and independence of the children and persons with various disabilities by developing, restoring, maintaining or changing their daily self-service skills and work experience. In addition, OTs help children compensate for permanently impaired functions by adapting their home, school and work environment. The main goal of OT treatment is to provide independent living for people with disabilities and to improve the quality of life. It is distinguished by the holistic approach to the client, who is placed at the center of the therapeutic process.
In the official statement of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), the following definition is given:
"OT is a customer-centered health-care profession that aims to promote health and well-being through participation in activities" (WFOT, 2010).
NART focuses mainly on OT in the school environment, but also supports the families of children and pupils with special educational needs
